Deia is a small municipality of only 750 residents on Mallorca’s spectacular north west coast. Part of the Tramuntana mountain range, which was granted World Heritage status in 2011, the village itself sits slightly inland. Surrounding scenery is quite dramatic, with peaks of 1,500 metres and cliffs plunging into the sea.
Water access is rather limited on this coastline but Deia has a small, shingle beach with two well known restaurants. One of them, perched on the rocks overlooking the bay, was featured in the popular BBC series The Night Manager, a crime drama based on John Le Carre’s book, starring Tom Hiddleston. Since the 19th century, the area has been a magnet for celebrities, actors, authors, artists & musicians, seeking solitude and inspiration.
If you enjoy hiking or cycling, there are plenty of walking routes, old donkey trails and paths to explore. The most famous is the dry stone route from Valldemossa to Deia.
The town itself, with its cobbled streets, has many arts and crafts galleries, boutiques and first class restaurants. Amongst its stylish hotels is the Belmond, formerly owned by Richard Branson. There are some gorgeous, stone townhouses for sale here, with all the rustic features typical of Mallorca.
