Llucmajor

Llucmajor is the largest municipality within Mallorca and actually encompasses 15 towns along its coastline from S’Arenal to Vallgonera Nou. S’Arenal grew through tourism as there’s a sandy beach though gradually the coastline becomes steeper and steeper until it reaches the point of Cap Blanc with its impressive lighthouse.

The town of Llucmajor inland lies within a part of the island known as mighorn, a flat, tranquil plain ideal for walking and cycling. Over the years, Mallorca has become one of Europe’s top cycling destinations and Llucmajor has an extensive network of 400 kilometres of perfectly marked cycling routes. They are particularly popular in the months of January and February when the weather is pleasantly warm and the almond trees are in bloom, contrasting with the red earth fields. The landscape also lends itself to golf and there are three courses at Maoris and Son Antem.

The Llucmajor Circuit is the only speed circuit for motorcycling, motor racing and go-carting on the island with an area of 200,000 m2, ideal for motor events and exhibitions. For the more adventurous amongst you there are several companies based in Llucmajor which offer adrenalin filled experiences such as coasteering, cave diving, canyoning and cliff jumping.

Llucmajor itself is a medium sized town just 30 minutes from Palma with everything you need for everyday living. It thrived in the 20th century from shoe making and excellent craftsmanship in stone, iron and wood. It still enjoys a thriving community today which does’t rely on tourism so it’s active all year round. The surrounding countryside still has a strong agricultural tradition especially for apricots and almonds which grow around the town. In September there are several fiestas with large markets for local produce, arts and crafts. There’s a regular market on Sundays.
