Capdella

This pretty village in the rural south west is highly sought after due to its ideal location, just 10 minutes from Santa Ponsa and only 15 minutes from either Andratx or Puerto Portals. There’s also a cycle and pedestrian walkway linking the village to Calvia town, with lights along its entire length.

Overshadowed by Galatzo, the highest peak at the southern end of the Tramuntana mountain chain, the village is surrounded by large, rural estates such as Son Vic Nou, Son Vic Vell and Ses Algorfes. The estate of Son Claret
just outside the village on the road to Galilea, became the five star Son Claret hotel, whose restaurant recently gained a second Michelin star. In the summer there are gourmet evenings with classical concerts.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the coast, village life centres around Sa Vinya, its tree lined square with children’s park, public swimming pool and restaurant, a lively meeting point for its mixed community of residents. The “Bar Nou” restaurant is a family run operation
which has a loyal following too. Opened in 1962, it’s always busy and people drive inland especially to sample the local cuisine.

The village school is highly respected here. With lovely views over outlying almond fields, its pupils are a mixture of Spanish and European nationalities.

A traditional handicrafts fair is now held annually in November, with animal exhibits and activities for children. For the more adventurous, the Galatzo Trail is a 43 kilometre trail race through the Galatzo estate, more than 1,400 hectares of natural landscape.
